Chapter Seven
Marshall
I had never known hell until the moment Briar was taken from me.
This is saying a lot, seeing as Iâve spent a decade of my life locked away in jail for a crime I did not commit. It doesnât matter that I was later cleared of all charges and I sued the state for wrongful conviction and won. None of that matters as everyone who knew me or meets me for the first time already has their minds made up on the kind of man I am.
Ten years in prison can harden a man and make him bulletproof to anything the world throws at him. Living in the middle of the ocean and away from civilization for the better part of the last five years was dangerous as the isolation can create monsters of men.
None of that compared to losing Briar. Not the prison littered with the angriest men on Earth or the unforgiving waters around the rig.
Watching the Coast Guard escort a tearful Briar off the oil rig was my own personal hell. The embers were only ignited when I walked back to my room and everything reminded me of my angel.
Her soft and sweet rosy scent was everywhere in the tiny room. My sheets were stained with her scent, and I spent the entire night with my nose buried in them. I couldnât sleep a wink. I spent all night thinking about her, and for the first time, I decided the only way to get to her was to leave the rig.
No fucking way am I going to let some other guy steal her away from me.
Mine!
Fuck, the need to rip away her little dress, unzip my pants, and fuck her is strong. The memory of her little hand wrapped around my fat cock, jerking me off onto her stomach is all I could think about as I looked around for her.
Itâs all I thought about as I waited for Dex to hear from his sister.
Turns out, my angel is an heiress. Who would have thought? She doesnât carry herself as one. So shy and humble, my little angel. Her parents arenât shy about her on their social media, bragging about how Briar is a chemical engineering student with all straight Aâs.
How the hell could someone like her want me? A man with more scars and tattoos than skin. One with a history darker than the pits of hell. And yet, she let me touch her. Moaned even as these rough, calloused hands ran over her delicate porcelain skin.
It was all I could do to keep my hands off her as I led her away from campus to the nearby hotel Iâd booked. The walk to the hotel took less than twenty minutes, but it was the greatest test on my restraint Iâd ever experienced.
Even as she leans against me, her bag clutched to her chest as we wait to be given our room key, I canât believe how perfect she is.
âHere you go, sir,â the receptionist says, handing us our hotel key.
